The press conference, at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany, will follow the signing of contracts between Thales Alenia Space Italy, UK and France, OHB system AG (Germany) and Nammo (UK) for the ESA’s lunar lander programme Argonaut. The programme is a key part of ESA’s lunar strategy and will support future robotic and crewed missions, contributing to international efforts to establish a long-term human presence on the Moon.
Duration 01:00HydroGNSS is the first of ESA’s new family of Scout missions, which are developed within ESA’s Earth Observation FutureEO programme. It is a two-satellite mission that will measure soil moisture, wetlands, freeze–thaw state over permafrost, forest biomass and other climate variables linked to the global water cycle. It will supply affordable, frequent measurements to support weather forecasting, agriculture, flood prediction, and carbon monitoring. Launch of the HydroGNSS mission is scheduled on board a Falcon 9 launcher from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. Onboard the same launcher, the next Italian IRIDE satellites as well as two CubeSats from the Greek National Earth Observation project.
